Scarring Treatments
Treatments to repair, reduce and fade skin scarring
Our skin experts have extensive knowledge and experience in repairing damaged skin tissue, from smaller acne or chicken pox scars to surgical scars or scarring caused by trauma or accidents.
Scarred skin can never truly be 100% removed, the treatment objective for new scars is to maximise the repair of the skin during the healing phase so that the appearance of the scar is massively reduced. To treat older scarring we need to induce the healing phase once again so that huge repair is undertaken to minimise the appearance.
This is a hugely important part of the treatment phase, we must first heal, repair and improve the deeper layers of the damaged tissue first before being able to treat the superficial upper layers.
Depending on the type of scar and the cause there are different approaches to repairing the underlaying matrix of the deeper layers and the upper layers of the dermis.
The age of the scar can also make a big difference to how we treat a scar formation, the optimal time to treat scarring is while it is still fresh with pink tones to the newly formed scar tissue. This can be as soon as 2 weeks for smaller and minor injuries, once all scabbing has come away and the skin is closed, where as deeper wounds like a c-section would require 12 weeks.
We can also make improvements to older scars or stretch marks but these require a different approach as we must induce the healing phase and give the tissue another chance to repair and improve
We have various options in treating scarring and these include;
